Over the last couple of years, we have played some great golf courses when traveling in central Washington State, usually on our way to a music festival in the Methow Valley, (Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival). This year we decided to find a new course, one that we have not had the privilege of playing, and we decided on Salish Cliffs Golf Course in Shelton Washington just off Highway 1. The course is part of the Little Creek Casino property, which is a great place to stay, either at the lodge or in the RV park.
Overall, the course was in fantastic shape, beautiful fairways and topnotch greens. The only exception was the bunkers. We were told that they had put a lot of money into the bunkers over the last year, and they were everywhere, however, they don’t seem to rake the bunkers out daily. There were a lot of workers keeping the course in great shape, but I guess nobody was assigned to work the bunkers. Although I visited several of the bunkers, it did not impact my love of the course. There are a couple of things to remember if you are going to play this course: 1) if you hit any of your shots out of the playing area, the chance of find your ball is very low – make sure to have enough golf balls for the round, 2) the yardage books are not accurate, use the GPS on the cart or your own range finder to determine the distances.
The club house was small but nice and the attendants were very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a café on the right side of the club house, and the food is very good. They have everything from breakfast to sandwiches. I would recommend this course to anyone.
