We decided to visit Walla Walla, Washington mostly to see where one of our favorite wines (Figgins Family, Leonetti Wines) comes from and to play a round of golf on our way to the Brewster, Washington to play Gamble Sands and the new course Scarecrow. I looked for a couple of courses near Walla Walla and found a course called Wine Valley Golf Club. We decided to visit the course the afternoon on the day before we were scheduled to play, just to get a feel for how long it would take us to get there from downtown, and to see what we were getting into with regards to the course.

We had an early tee time, 6:40AM on Saturday the 12th, and they had paired us with a single. We were the second group off, and we were told that the group in front of us played really fast, so we won’t be slowed down at all. Our single turned out to be a very polite and nice young man who had played college hockey – he could really hit the ball. The sound of his iron shots rivaled a PGA player, but I digress in envy 😊. All I can say is Wow. What a beautiful course and layout. It was very much a links style course. The fairways were very well maintained and the greens were impeccable and rolled perfect at about a 11 on the stimpmeter. Overall, the course was in beautiful shape. The pro shop, although small, was well stocked with property specific hats and clothing, as well as other items you can purchase to have as mementos. The pro shop also includes a small café where you can get drinks, food, and snacks. The facility  was staffed with people who knew golf and they were extremely welcoming, especially the person we spoke to on Friday afternoon, Gabriel Tonan. He not only managed the shop, but rolled and cut the greens on Saturday morning. We liked the course so much that we did a replay in the afternoon when it was hovering around 95* to complete 36 holes. It has become one of our favorite courses and a yearly must play trip.

Note – stay downtown Walla Walla so that you can enjoy the local food in the evening. We stayed at the Marcus Whitman Hotel, (https://marcuswhitmanhotel.com/), which allowed us to walk to the food district and enjoy the area along with the food.
